1st day of PDC & MS announce the release of their new Windows Azure platform (part of what they are terming their new Cloud technology). It’s pretty cool and if it does what they say it’ll do then it will allow developers to pretty much scale their apps out across the globe as required.<\/p>\n

The concept is that Azure is a new operating system located in the Web tier that will allow developers to deploy & host their applications. Azure will be hosted by MS in DataCenters around the world. You’ll be able to specify how you scale out, how many servers , your band widths etc. The implications for the size and amounts of hardware & infrastructure that MS will need to provide for this is mind boggling! You’ll pay for the size of your Azure environment & amount of traffic that you expect.<\/p>\n

What we’ve seen is nothing less than MS completely re-orienting\u00a0 their business model from being a systems\/application provider to a global services provider …. HUGE !!!<\/p>\n

Another cool feature is the mesh services (part of Azure) This will allow the synching of data from multiple devices from Mobile phones to DBMS systems!<\/p>\n
